Castellabate & Cilento

Santa Maria di Castellabate is a picturesque fishing village that has preserved its characteristics totally intact, despite the increasing tourism development. The town is located in the middle of a wide bay, surrounded by the two promontories of “Punta Licosa” and “Punta Tresino”, characterized by golden beaches alternating with cliffs and bathed by a sea which, for its clarity, deserved for years the “Blue Flag” recognition.  In this natural semicircle are grouped the small fishermen’s houses and the historic center, including the “Palazzo Belmonte” (an ancient princely residence) and the “Villa Matarazzo” (once the residence of the Lords of the place and today the venue for events and cultural exhibitions). Among the many noble palaces on the “promenade” dominates the majestic Tower of the Aragonese and almost contradictory with it you can view the small “Madonnina”, protector of fishermen, made of ceramics developed in the only laboratory that still performs artifacts according to the ancient craft tradition.
